Versatile VW crafter CR35 built-in shower

Sharing is caring!

This van is perfect for living in full-time or for fun weekend trips. It has a big kitchen with everything you need, like a sink, a gas stove, and lots of storage for your dishes and food. There’s even space for a fridge, which isn’t there yet but is ready to be installed.

The bathroom is cleverly hidden and you can even use the shower outside if you want. There’s also a separate area for the toilet.

We made sure the van feels open and roomy for everyday living, but it still has all the comforts of home, like a big bed and a nice shower area.

For eating and working, there are two seats on each side of the van with extra storage under them. The table in the middle can move around to different spots as needed, and there’s a big bench seat along one side for more space to relax or sit.

Under the dining area, there’s a little storage spot that’s perfect for keeping drinks or even shoes.

We’ve also used the van as an office. The table can hold two laptops and an extra screen, so two people can work comfortably inside.

This van has a full-size double bed that you can slide closed during the day to make a smaller bed and create a storage space underneath. You can reach this storage space from the back doors.

Right above the bed, there’s a big skylight that’s perfect for looking at the stars. It can open to let in cool air on warm nights, and there’s a blind to block out light and a screen to keep bugs out.

The bed works in two ways: during the day, it’s a fixed, smaller bed, but at night, it slides out to become a full-length double bed. It has special slats that slide over each other to change the bed’s size.

It fits a mattress that is 6 feet 3 inches long, split in half and joined with a zipper. To set it up for sleeping, just slide out the bed base and unfold the mattress. This is easy to do by yourself in less than 30 seconds.

Next to the bed, there are magazine racks for storing magazines, small laptops, and phones, and each side has a light with a USB charging point. There are also wooden shelves on both sides of the bed for your drinks.

The mattress is made of memory foam and is 6 feet long. You can swap it for a longer, 6 feet 3 inch mattress if you prefer.

The van is designed for a couple, but the bench seating is also comfy for a small child to sleep on. There are three seats with seat belts in the driving area.

We’ve built a shower under the main seating bench with the showerhead above. If you want to shower outside, the hose is long enough to reach outside the sliding door. This is perfect for washing off mud from your dogs or sand from your feet after the beach.

We’ve also put a hot air vent under the seat in the shower area to help dry it out. This vent also works great for drying small items or wet shoes.

For drying clothes, we’ve directed another hot air vent into the storage area under the bed. You can hang a drying rail there to dry clothes easily.

Off-Grid Camping: This van is great for camping off the grid or at campsites with facilities. It has 480 watts of solar panels on the roof and 240 amp-hour batteries. The batteries can charge while you drive or when connected to mains power.

All the power usage can be checked on a monitor in the seating area. There’s also a 2000-watt inverter with two outlets, one is in the main area of the van.

Build: We haven’t changed the vehicle’s official classification yet; we’ll leave that up to the buyer. During the build, we met all the necessary requirements, like the right windows, which makes it easy to change if you decide to.

We chose PVC white ash effect cladding for the inside because it’s waterproof, light, and stable — perfect for a campervan. It’s also easy to clean.

There’s a storage spot for a 6KG gas bottle in the garage area, right inside the rear doors, with an easy-to-reach cap to fill the water tank.

There’s a 57-liter fresh water tank over the wheel arch with a water level gauge.

When we created the wall between the driving area and the living space, we made sure it was big enough to move through if needed quickly. It also acts like an extra window and gives the driver better visibility at junctions.

Blank Canvas: We’ve left some choices up to you. For instance, we haven’t installed a fridge yet, but there’s already wiring for both 12v and 240v and a space ready for one. The sink’s waste system uses a jerry can, which you can easily switch to a more permanent setup if you prefer.

The same goes for the shower waste—it’s ready for a portable system but can be connected to a fixed one if you choose. We also left the kitchen cupboards empty so you can organize them your way. As for window coverings, we’ve left those for you to decide as well.

As shown in the photos, there’s a 12v wire above the sink where you could add a shelf with lighting—there’s support built into the wall for it, but you can choose what to do there. We’ve also strengthened an area behind the wall near the sink to mount a TV if you’d like.
