When Ian and Hannah decided to live in a tiny home, they chose to renovate a school bus into their new house.
They planned their renovation with the same creativity and care they used to start their online store, Hanzian Designs.
The couple spent a lot of time designing and building their home just the way they wanted.
They chose a farmhouse style with lots of storage. They also planned for surprises, which was smart.
So when their baby Nora was born, her lovely nursery in the bus was all set up.
Ian and Hannah bought a 35-foot International 3800 school bus for $2,000. It was a good deal because it had a working engine and two new tires.
Designing a home inside a bus, which is only 186 square feet, might scare others, but Ian and Hannah were ready with great ideas to use every inch for their growing family.
Their home is beautiful and shows how well they planned and worked together.
They decorated in their favorite farmhouse style, using 4-by-8 wainscoting on the ceilings and walls.
The white makes the space feel bigger, and Hannah thought it looked great with the teal cabinets and matte black kitchen faucet.
The cozy couch pulls out into a full-sized bed.
A sliding barn door opens to show one of the most beautiful parts of the bus: a custom-tiled shower.
Hannah and her mom worked together to create this stunning feature.
Hannah knew the tiles would make the bus heavier, so they made other choices to keep the bus light.
The shower seat lifts up to give extra storage.
Their farmhouse sink is one of their favorite things in the home. It fits perfectly in the small kitchen and adds to the classic style of the room.
The black faucet looks great against the sink and can also be used as a baby bathtub.
The faucet can even swing out the window to offer an outdoor shower.
The lovely gas stove matches the black and white theme and looks timeless.
The butcher block counter sits on top of teal cabinets with gold hardware, which open to show lots of storage.
Inside one of these cabinets, there’s a smart slide-out pantry. It’s just one way the couple made sure their kitchen has plenty of storage and works well.
The desktop is made from the same butcher block as the counter and goes well with the mid-century modern chair.
The teal accent wall matches the kitchen cabinets and makes a beautiful background for Hannah’s decorative baskets, which she found at thrift stores.
Another special item in this room is the topographical map pillow.
The map was originally a bandanna they bought at the Grand Canyon gift shop and later made into a pillow cover.
Here is the beautiful nursery built for little Nora. The crib fits perfectly in the space, and Hannah made custom bedding for it.
One benefit of living in a tiny home is that the baby is always close by for midnight feedings.
There’s nothing like sharing a special moment with Daddy while traveling on the open road.
As a “bus baby,” Nora’s first experiences are filled with adventure, travel, and the comfort of home.
She will always remember the memories she made in the special home her parents lovingly created for their family.
