If you’ve ever slept in a twin bed as an adult, you might think it’s too small, especially if you used to share a room with a sibling. But maybe you have fond memories of twin beds from college days with a roommate.
At Small Home Tours, we believe twin beds aren’t just for kids’ rooms. They’re great for adults too, especially when you have guests staying over.
Twin beds can be fun to set up and decorate, whether it’s just one or two side by side. They’re way more comfortable than a futon and look better too.

Bring the bobbins
Elizabeth Hay gave her old thatched cottage from the 16th century a new look, filling it with different patterns. In one bedroom, she chose yellow-painted bobbin four poster beds that she designed herself.
These beds look great against the deep green walls painted with Edward Bulmer paint and mustard-colored bedding. She even turned a vase into a lamp!
Break the rules
You can make a cozy spot by tucking a twin bed into a small nook. Your guest will love it! The room has two shiny gray wall sconces and fun leopard wallpaper.
It’s filled with lots of prints and patterns on the bedding, but it still feels just right. Don’t be shy about mixing different prints like Studio DB did here.
The bolder, the better.

Float away
Here’s how to make a room for three people fun. You might need some help from a contractor, but your guests will be amazed at how much effort you put in.
Rethink the layout
Change up the usual layout. Instead of placing beds side by side, try arranging two twin beds horizontally across from each other with a side table in the middle. Cuff Studio chose a central table that holds all the kids’ records and books.
Mix patterns
Sky-high Suzani canopies give twin beds a classic look that’s also playful and surprising. These beds have matching skirts, and the black and white pillows look great against the delicate floral wallpaper and traditional monogrammed coverlets.
Cozy into a corner
Kevin Scott designed a cozy twin bed that fits perfectly into a corner. It looks modern and fresh, but it’s also cozy and great for a teenager with a small bedroom.
DIY it
Instead of a custom-made canopy, try hanging one you bought from a store. This is easier and takes less commitment. In a purple bedroom designed by Garrow Kedigian, a cream canopy matches the headboard and makes the room look fuller.
Use soothing colors
Create a peaceful bedroom by covering the walls with sky blue wallpaper. This calming color is perfect for kids and still looks good as they grow older.
Elevate with taller beds
This bedroom shows that twin beds can look just as elegant as bigger beds with the right touches. In this stylish bedroom, there’s a chaise nearby, fancy lighting, a mirror, curtains, and a nice color scheme that all add to the sophisticated look.
Make magic happen
Interior designer Amir Khamneipur needed to fit a guest room in his small apartment for his nephew. He made two six-foot-long seats that turn into twin beds. These beds have built-in drawers for storing bedding.
Mix and match
Twins don’t have to look exactly alike! Choose bedding in different colors and patterns for a fun and unique style.

Stay timeless
The interior designer chose modern, adaptable furniture for this room. There’s a stylish lamp, a suede bed frame, decorative throws, fresh bedding, and unique art. All these pieces look modern yet timeless.
Prioritize comfort
In this small bedroom design, polka dot walls and a sleek black lamp set the tone for a cozy bedroom. The twin beds are loaded with lots of pillows and luxurious bedding, making them perfect for a good night’s sleep.
Do double duty
In this media room, three twin beds against the back wall serve two purposes. They are extra beds for sleepovers and comfy sofas for movie nights.
Add privacy
In a shared bedroom, give twin beds some privacy with curtains. This long, narrow room by Cameron Rupert Interiors has a fun design and built-in storage.
Blend repurposed antiques
These playful wall decals and bed frames make the room fun for kids. An antique dresser adds a timeless touch, showing that some pieces can last a long time.
Lighten the mood
This room has a striped table lamp, a wooden stool, graphic rugs, and linen bedding. The headboard, upholstered by Kelly Wearstler, is eye-catching and stylish, and the soft pink walls make the room feel light and welcoming.
This room is designed to feel like home for anyone, no matter their age.
Use matching headboards
Are you turning your grown child’s bedroom into a guest room? Twin beds with classic white bedding and matching headboards are a great choice. The embroidered coverlets add a formal touch, while the gingham skirts keep it playful.
Break up symmetry
To make the room look more modern, hang a piece of artwork between the two beds. This breaks up the perfect symmetry. The Novogratz added fun to the room with mismatched throw blankets and a bright red wall.
Add a splash of color
This isn’t just any kid’s room—it’s way cooler.
The green bedding and curtains add a lively splash of color. They go well with the room’s antique wooden beds, terracotta floor tiles, and cool gray walls.
Upgrade them for teens
Canopy beds are always cool, and a wild print makes them even more exciting. Instead of a bench at the end of the bed, how about a Lucite swing? Studio Heimat really made this teen bedroom stand out.
Go vertical
If you don’t have room for two twin beds next to each other, stack them up! You can choose classic bunk beds or a trundle bed under a loft. Rayman Boozer shows us how to make it extra cozy by adding lots of soft blankets and pillows.
