Located in Torrensville, a suburb west of Adelaide, Plaster Fun House is inspired by the area’s culture. A tour of the house shows that its main design, which uses an art deco style, is different from the nearby buildings.
Sans-Arc Studio designed the house with curves in its architecture, interior, and especially in the custom-built areas. These curves add a fun feel and make it easy to move around the small space.

The house looks like a sculpture set in a garden. It’s a cheerful change from typical homes. Designed by Sans-Arc Studio, the house combines old and new styles through its curvy design.
The designers used terrazzo, a special type of flooring, wherever they could because the clients asked for it. Inside the house, the terrazzo on the kitchen island blends the old and new parts of the home. There’s a step down into the new area where the kitchen ends and the dining area begins.

The house is designed to feel good and use light well. There are skylights that bring in natural light, making the inside warm and bright. Details like terrazzo benches that match the cabinets, brass touches, and mosaic tiles in the kitchen and bathroom add a nice contrast and texture.
“The feel of a project is very important,” says designer Matiya. “It greatly adds to the experience of the space.”

The house features art deco-inspired curves that not only look nice but also make the space flow well, encouraging use of every area. There’s a cozy nook under the north-facing window with a built-in bench that’s perfect for reading.
In the kitchen, the desire to have social gatherings inspired the inclusion of bar stools at the kitchen counter, along with regular dining chairs.
The design of the home also focuses on being environmentally friendly. Sans-Arc Studio is dedicated to sustainability, which shows in the house’s design.

The house is covered with a thick, insulated material and has a special type of ventilation that helps keep it cool in the summer. Large metal overhangs above the windows help block some of the summer sun.

The outside of the house has a special stucco finish that reflects light, creating a look that nods to Mediterranean-style homes. This makes the home peaceful, artistic, and unique, giving the owners a welcoming new part of their house.
