The pod’s design is inspired by simple Scandinavian styles and the natural beauty of Tasmania. It blends minimalistic design with the stunning Tasmanian surroundings.

The pod is located in Lewisham, about a 40-minute drive from Hobart. This area is close to beautiful east coast beaches, dunes, and pine forests, offering unique views that are rare in Tasmania.

The pod consists of two separate structures brought in on different trucks. When they arrived, they were joined together. Between them, there are beautiful skylights that let light come in.

The pod is built with a timber frame, inspired by war aircraft. This makes it strong yet lightweight. It’s covered in Tasmanian oak, and the front has large glass windows. When you enter the pod, you can see everything at once, with the landscape as a beautiful backdrop.

Inside, the living room is cozy and welcoming. The fireplace, made by local blacksmith Pete Mantilla, is the main feature. He designed it with flames and movement in mind.

The couch, made by local craftsman Simon Anchor from hydrawood timber, seems to float. Simon did a great job making it both beautiful and comfortable.

To the left inside the pod, there is a great little storage area with a cozy reading nook. From here, you can see Mount Wellington while sitting and relaxing.

The sleeping area is very cozy. It features dark black timber and is raised off the ground. There are two small windows that let you see outside and an electronic skylight.

You just press a button to open it, which lets you enjoy the cool night air and starry skies. Underneath the bed, there’s also a lot of storage space.

The pod is split into two parts by skylights. These skylights create a natural separation between the living area at the front and the dining area at the back.

The kitchen, though small, has everything you need. It includes induction cooktops, a full-size oven, and lots of storage space both above and below the counters. There’s just enough counter space for cooking.

A local furniture maker, who is also a police officer, made the kitchen table. It’s built from beautiful Tasmanian oak and doubles as extra counter space for the kitchen.

The only door inside the pod is a glass sliding door that leads to the bathroom. Inside the bathroom, there’s a handmade ceramic basin from under the foothills of Mount Wellington.

It sits above a beautifully aged benchtop, and there’s a shower that feels like you’re in the forest. There’s a small window in the bathroom through which you can see the dunes and the ocean.

The highlight of the pod is the outdoor bath. It’s made from human pine, assembled from hundreds of hand-glued pieces, and then shaped by a robot. The deck around the bath has privacy screens, so you can enjoy a private bath outside.

Staying in this pod is a special chance, described by the host of Grand Designs Australia, Peter Madison, as a ‘love letter to Tasmania.’
