Most stories about Tiny Houses talk about people moving into them to save money, but Haley did something different. She designed her own Tiny Home when she was 19 and moved in right after graduating from college.
Now, she lives comfortably in her tiny home in Southern California, happy that she can always afford her place.
I’m Haley, and we’re in Simi Valley, California. Welcome to my house! I’ve always liked small spaces because they have everything I need in one area.
Thinking about how much energy and resources big houses use can be really frustrating. I believe our generation values experiences more than just having a lot of stuff.
Living in a tiny home means you don’t have as much extra stuff to worry about. This lets you focus more on experiences and what’s truly important. I designed this house at 19, and it cost around $50,000. Some people thought it was crazy.
They ask me if I like it and how it feels to live in a small space. But just because it’s small doesn’t mean it feels cramped. I rent a piece of land here in Simi Valley.
I parked my tiny house up on a steep hill. Moving it here was tough because of the steepness and the wind, but the amazing view makes it all worth it. My favorite part about this house is that it really feels like my own space.
I can invite people over and inspire them. In fact, one of my mom’s friends started building his own tiny house after seeing mine, which was really cool.
I’m excited about how this tiny house might help me in the future. I think it’s setting me up for more financial independence, and it helps me avoid feeling anxious all the time.
