Danny, a book lover, has been living in his bus for over six months. He designed his space beautifully, thinking carefully about what he needed and wanted in a small living area. The bus has a lot of storage space.
It also features a kitchen with plenty of counter space, an oven to bake bread, a deep sink, lots of shelves, and a dining room table. Danny lived in New York City for 33 years. He wanted a slower life and more time outdoors, so he moved into his bus and made it a real home on wheels.
Hi, my name is Danny O’Brien. I’m from New York City, and I live in a 2001 Thomas Freightliner bus that is 38 feet long and has a 5.9 Cummins engine. I’ve been living in my bus for about six months and have been traveling for just over a month.
I was working on a contract with a client and spent all my free time designing. I sketched and measured, using my background in design to make this a fun project.
I spent about two years planning a big change because a lot of things were happening at once. My work contract in New York City ended, and being away so much was hurting my business.
At the same time, I was traveling overseas for work, my son was graduating from college, and my apartment lease was ending. I saw all this coming two years ahead and made a plan.
So, when my contract ended in mid-July, I had until the end of July to pack up everything and move to North Carolina. That’s where my bus was waiting.
I worked with a great team—Stasi, Jeff, Quinton, and Chris. We worked hard every day for a couple of months on the bus. Now, I am very happy living here.
