Hey everyone, welcome to our home! I’m Adam Wegman and this is Joni Wegman.
Before we started living in a bus, we had a six-acre homestead with a small farm. We raised chickens and goats and had a big garden. That was our life before we decided to try bus living. We also ran a couple of businesses and homeschooled our kids, which kept us very busy.
We were tired of the cold Minnesota winters, so we wanted a way to escape during the winter months. We looked into RVs and trailers, but couldn’t find anything that suited our needs.
We figured we’d end up changing any RV we bought to make it feel like ours, so Joni made a Facebook post asking for advice. Someone suggested looking at an old school bus.
Joni then bought a one-way ticket to go see a bus she’d never seen before, to buy a bus she’d never driven before, without knowing much about it.
It took us seven months to build the bus from start to finish. During that time, I stopped my other work and focused just on the bus. We were also moving out of a rental and into another property, and we were selling things, so I wasn’t working on the bus full-time.
We did a lot during that period, including selling things from our home and our business. We did 90% of the work on the bus ourselves and spent about $30,000 to turn it into a place to live.
I think the bus turned out great and it has really changed our lifestyle. Now, we’re with our children all day, every day. We teach them reading and math, and it’s wonderful to see their excitement when they learn something new.
Living in close quarters has made our family very close-knit, and having a loving family is really what we want.
