Couple renovates RV into gorgeous nomadic tiny house (camper van renovation)

Sharing is caring!

I’m Shelby, and this is Rooster. We live in our RV named Louise. We’ve been into tiny living since we got married in 2015. Right after our wedding, we moved onto a boat that was even smaller than our RV. Living in Louise feels more like home than anywhere else we’ve been.

Rooster is in the military, and I teach English online. This RV lifestyle is perfect for us because I can keep my job no matter where we move. All I need is Wi-Fi to work.

For the first few years of our marriage, we often lived apart—in different cities, states, and sometimes even different countries. So, living in our RV has been great because it’s the first time we’ve been able to stay together under one roof for nearly a year.

Before, we didn’t own much—just a bed that we took with us wherever we went. Now, in our RV, we own a kitchen table for the first time in three years.

We were really happy to finally have a place we could call home. When we got our RV, we completely changed it.

I learned a bit about carpentry from my dad, who was a carpenter. The RV had big, old, ugly recliners and cabinets that hung over them, so we took a lot out. It was tough because we didn’t have big tools like a table saw, which made the job harder.

My decorating style is eclectic and Bohemian. But when we decided to move to California, I chose a beach shack style for the interior. I didn’t know how much I would enjoy decorating the RV.

It’s been fun to use my creativity and learn that you don’t have to be a professional to create something great. If there’s something you really want to do, you should go for it.

My favorite part of our home is the day bed area. It’s very special to us. After all the hard work we put into it, I remember looking at it for the first time and thinking, “This is it.” I also love that we can pack up and be right next to the beach in just one day.

Since Rooster is in the military, we used to live separately a lot. It’s so nice to finally live together under the same roof. Sometimes, we might complain about small things, but we remind each other why we’re doing this. We’ve also learned to live with less. You don’t need as much as you think you do.
