Couple buys Florida island and builds 2nd tiny house, built to withstand hurricanes

Sharing is caring!

Sam and Tim have lived in a tiny house on wheels for three years, and now they’re starting a new project! They bought an island in Florida and are building their second tiny home there. This new house is a 320 square-foot prefab home on a solid foundation, designed to withstand hurricanes.

Tim: “We chose to live in a tiny home because when we looked at traditional houses and renting, tiny living just made more sense. We wanted fewer things and a simpler life.”

Sam: “I was the one who really pushed for living in a tiny house. I’ve wanted to for a long time, and eventually, Tim agreed.”

Tim: “I found our first tiny home, a beautiful blue one, on Craigslist one night. I showed it to Sam, and we went to see it the next day. Sam immediately said it was going to be our house.”

“Tiffany,” named for its stained glass windows and light fixtures, has been Sam and Tim’s home for three years. Right now, it’s parked in an RV park where they have a flush toilet, Wi-Fi, running water, electricity, and lots of amenities. But when they move to their island, things will change.

The island is off-grid, meaning it doesn’t have these services yet, so they are working on building them. They plan to install a compost toilet in their tiny house on wheels (THOW) and their new tiny home on a foundation.

Sam says, “We’ve been living tiny for three years and really love it. Moving in was smooth, and we haven’t faced any big challenges. I don’t think we’ll ever move back to a traditional house. We might choose a slightly bigger tiny home if we have kids, but we plan to live tiny for a long time.”
