This amazing family lives off the grid in a stone house they fixed up themselves. They grow their own food, collect rainwater, and use solar power.
They even have special toilets that compost waste and a pond that cleans used water. They live a very eco-friendly life and work on projects like city gardening and promoting a plant called industrial hemp.
Every winter, they travel for 2 to 4 months because they don’t have to pay a mortgage. They bought their house for $15,000. Their daughter, Emma, who is in the first grade, travels with them.

While they’re on the road, they teach her themselves. Francis and Marie have wanted to be self-sufficient for a long time. They spent 8 years fixing up their house, planting gardens, and getting ready to live their dream.

This family has been living on their dream farm for over two years. They grow apples, berries, and other fruits, which they save for winter. They also grow vegetables and collect eggs from their chickens.
In the summer, they spend as little as $30 a week on groceries because they grow so much food themselves. They store a lot of their food in a root cellar, but they wish they had a refrigerator.

Their house uses the sun to stay warm and has a greenhouse in the front. The house stays warm even in cold weather, but they also have a wood stove called an Amish Pioneer Princess. They use it to heat the house, cook food, and warm up their water.

They collect rainwater with three different systems. One system has a tank in front of the house that collects water from the greenhouse roof, and a solar-powered pump moves the water to a big tank underground.

They have two more tanks that collect rainwater—one from the house roof and another from their shed roof. When all the tanks are full, they have 10,000 liters of fresh water. They don’t have a well yet, so they get drinking water from a cabin down the road.

They use a small solar power system for their lights, the water pump, and the internet. They hope to get a bigger system one day, but for now, this one works well.
