Christine is a dental assistant who loves small, cozy spaces. She decided to live in a tiny house for three main reasons. First, she wanted to save money and be more comfortable financially.
Second, she likes the feel of smaller spaces. Third, she wanted to help the environment by living in a smaller home.
Her ex-husband, George, helped her build the tiny house. Christine started the project by buying a trailer for $6000. George used extended roof trusses for the house’s frame. The walls are insulated with a mix of rigid and spray foam to keep it warm.
Christine chose a composting toilet for her tiny house. It’s called Nature’s Head. If she had to choose again, she would pick a dry toilet instead. The dry toilet is easier to clean because it uses a simple 5-gallon bucket that is easy to carry outside.
Christine uses propane for heating, hot water, and cooking in the winter. She plans to install solar panels at her next place to use electricity and be completely off the grid.
Right now, Christine has placed her tiny house in a friend’s backyard for the first year. Later, she wants to move to a community where people think like her and live in tiny houses too.
Even though her tiny house is in a place where it’s not technically legal, Christine is still very happy. Living in a tiny house lets her live simply and save money, which makes her happy.
