On November 18th, 2018, we bought a special bus for $4,000. Before we got it, this bus was used as a school bus in Virginia Beach, Virginia. A school bus mechanic from Michigan bought it first.
He wanted to use the bus as a traveling repair shop to fix other buses in his town. But the bus company didn’t think it was a good idea to have a school bus fixing other school buses. So, he decided to sell it and buy a different kind of truck.
We had been looking for a bus like this for a few weeks. We first saw it on Facebook Marketplace and then found it on Craigslist too.

We went to see the bus on November 4th, 2018, and gave the seller $500 to hold it until he received the bus title in the mail. On November 18th, we returned to Michigan with the money and signed the title to make it ours!

The Kitchen
We chose butcher block countertops for our kitchen because they are easy to take care of and they look nice against our white subway tile and black cabinets. Sarah picked a black and stainless faucet from Kraus, a gift from Chris’s mom, and a stainless square sink from Sarah’s mom.

The Bathroom
Our bathroom has two parts. The first part is just for the toilet. We use a Nature’s Head composting toilet and we really like it. We made it even better by connecting the urine directly to the grey water tank. This means we don’t have to empty the small tank that comes with it every day or two.

The Exterior
The outside of the bus is covered with Raptor truck bed liner. This makes it very strong and protects it from weather while also sealing and adding a bit of insulation. We chose dove gray for the sides and hood, and bright white for the roof to help reflect sunlight and keep the bus cooler.
