How a growing family of four enjoys the luxuries of home in a renovated Skoolie

Sharing is caring!

Paige Volk and her family live in a special bus called Appa. She lives there with her husband, their daughter, a new baby, and a cute corgi dog.

They named the bus after a character called “sky bison” from a TV show on Nickelodeon named “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”

Just like the sky bison, their bus Appa helps them travel freely around the country and live without needing a regular home.

Paige and her husband worked hard to make the bus perfect for their family.

They added a heated floor, solar panels for electricity, a modern toilet that burns waste, a small wood stove, and a deep bath from Japan.

The front of the bus has a space that serves as a living room, dining room, and main bedroom.

How do they manage that? They fold up the chairs and table and store them between the kitchen cabinets and a bench seat.

Across from this area, there’s a Murphy bed that folds down and connects to the couch, creating a big bed.

The couch also serves as a special sleeping area right next to the baby.

The kitchen in the bus is just like one in a regular home. It has a cooktop with burners and lots of storage cabinets above and below the sink.

Behind the sink, there’s a Travel Berkey water filter. This filter provides clean drinking water and helps the family use fewer plastic bottles.

Behind the kitchen, there are cozy bunk beds for the children. This design gives the kids their own sleeping area, separate from where the adults sleep, which adds privacy.

Next to the bunk beds, there is a small play area with bookshelves filled with the children’s favorite books.

Right next to this play space, Paige has a Magic Chef washer/dryer combo that makes doing laundry easy.

The family made sure their bathroom was big enough to be comfortable. It has a large Japanese soaking tub that they really enjoy.

They also have a custom-made sink, small but perfect for washing hands and brushing teeth.

Across from that, there’s an incinerator toilet which helps them live off-the-grid by burning waste instead of using water.
