The tiny house movement is here to stay. With real estate prices higher than ever, many people are thinking about living in smaller spaces.
You might have seen a variety of sheds at large home stores like Lowe’s or Home Depot. Maybe you’ve even thought about using one as a cozy hangout spot in your backyard.

But, have you ever thought about making one of these sheds your home?
The TR-1600
A few years ago, Home Depot sold a big shed called the Tuff Shed TR1600.
People really liked it, and now many are waiting for it to come back in stock. Some even thought this shed would make a great tiny home.

Have you seen these cute sheds in the parking lot?
They can be more than just sheds for your backyard.
The TR1600 is a big shed, 16 feet by 16 feet, and starts at $10,888.

If you want it painted and add more space inside, it will cost over $22,000. This price doesn’t include adding walls, insulation, electricity, or plumbing.
Still, it’s cheaper than buying a house in most American cities!
A good investment?
One couple decided to buy the bigger 16-foot by 24-foot shed and turn it into their home. They shared their tiny shed home life on Facebook.

But be warned, this comfy version costs $65,000. The couple already had a septic system and well water because they had a home on the property before.
Also, they needed a whole construction crew to set it up. So, this isn’t something you can simply get delivered to your driveway.

A bare-bones tour
During the TR-1600 craze, a YouTuber named Original Texan visited Home Depot to check out the model in the parking lot. Since then, nearly half a million people have watched the video and shown great interest.

At first glance, it’s tough to see how you could live in the small, pressed wood home.
You need a good imagination to think about moving into it, even for just part-time. But the tour in the video below helps you understand how much space there is.

Up to snuff?
If you’re thinking about turning a shed into a home, the first thing to consider is where to put it and if it meets building codes.
In some places in the U.S., new houses must be at least 1000 square feet.

Many people are excited about the idea of smaller homes, though.
One viewer said:
“That is a pretty cool structure. That’s about all I would need, nothing big and fancy. That place would be perfect when fully finished and insulated out in the woods.”

Original Texan replied:
“Glad you like it. It is a great concept so that if a house is needed, one could make changes as needed. The idea is just to provide an idea to those that can’t afford a $200,000 house. Things are expensive now.”
That was a year ago, and the housing market has gotten even more expensive since then. TuffShed isn’t selling the TR-1600 model at Home Depot right now, but they have many other models available.
