We’ve all heard about living in tiny homes and off the grid.
But have you ever thought about living in old railway carriages?
This home used to be a train that carried people.
Now? It’s a beautiful house in a peaceful place.
A woman from the Central Otago Region in New Zealand found some old railway carriages and made them her special project.
As we show you her tiny home, you’ll see it is filled with love and passion.

Mandy and her ex-husband used to restore boats and yachts.
She didn’t know her skills would be so useful when she saw these old train carriages and saw their potential.
She once dreamed of having a home by the beach, but when she discovered these carriages, she never looked back.

She said that fixing up these carriages was very hard.
At first, they were damp, and she even found dead birds inside!

The windows were broken, and it seemed like a lost cause. But Mandy knew she could bring this old railway carriage back to life.
The location offers a fantastic panoramic view.
When you step onto the deck of either cabin, you will always see beautiful scenery, day or night. Mandy has a small bathtub outside her home, but she has to use it carefully because water is not easy to get in the area.

Her home is completely off the grid.
She doesn’t have access to water or electricity.
Because of this, she collects and stores rainwater.
Her home gets power from solar panels connected to a generator. Heating isn’t a problem because she has a beautiful fireplace that warms the whole place.

Mandy’s main home is in the first carriage.
When you walk inside, you are welcomed by her beautiful living room. To the right is her kitchen, which she doesn’t use often, but she worked hard to restore it.

To the left are a bathroom and a cozy bedroom.
There isn’t a toilet in the bathroom, but don’t worry—Mandy has a separate long-drop toilet outside her home. Her bedroom is just as nice; it looks warm and inviting, and the view from the window is amazing!

The other carriage is a space for guests.
It has a roomy lounge area, and the walls are decorated with Mandy’s paintings. There is also a double bed with plenty of storage space underneath.

What you’ll love about this cart is its small den.
It has a mini library where you can relax and enjoy some quiet time. The best part is the deck outside, where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

One thing that stands out in Mandy’s home is how she kept parts of the carriages’ history.

She didn’t want everything to look new and shiny.
She kept the seat numbers, old markings, and even water stains on the wood. These little imperfections add to the beauty of the interior.
