Nineteen years ago, the Dolenc family built their dream home on a small piece of land they call a “farm-ette.” They have goats, chickens, and rabbits.
Along with their three kids, they have kept their little farm going. Their home is in a lovely spot with a farm, a pond, and a garden where they can spend time together.
A few years ago, the Dolencs realized their home, which they nicknamed “Kicsi Casa,” was getting too small now that their children were teenagers.
Instead of moving or making their house bigger, they decided to add a tiny house to their property. They worked with Simblissity Tiny Homes to design their tiny house, which cost about $67,000.
The Dolencs let their daughters, Lucie and Marin, design their new bedroom/tiny home to match their personalities.
At first, they wanted their teenage daughters to have their own space but still be near them. They also thought that the tiny home could later become a guest room, an office, or a mobile home for their kids.
The tiny home has turned out better than they hoped, and they are proud of Lucie and Marin. The girls did a great job showing their unique styles in their rooms.
It took about six months to finish the whole project. They connected the tiny home to the main house so it’s easy to get between them.
The sisters have a composting toilet and a nice shower with a vanity and sink.
Lucie said one challenge was finding enough storage in the tiny house. Like many tiny homes, they used the space under the stairs for closets.
Lucie sleeps in a loft bed. She mentioned it doesn’t have much room to sit up, but she likes the design. She finds it cozy and loves that her storage area can also turn into a desk when she needs to study.
Lucie enjoys having friends over to sleep there.
Her younger sister, Marin, chose a room on the ground level. The windows in her room let her see the goats and the view of the farm.
Above Marin’s bedroom is a loft where the kids hang out and read books. It has two sofa cushions that can turn into beds.
Their dad, Brett, jokes that his daughters say they’ll never leave home. Once you see their charming farm, you’d understand why these kids wouldn’t want to leave.
“Raising kids out here, you know they have chores and animals. So, we just made the decision as a family. This is our lifestyle. We share responsibilities, we help each other, we do things together,” said Kristy.
During the pandemic, Brett and Kristy invited their neighbors to their little farm. They let them relax with the farm animals for what they called “Covid relief goat therapy.”
Looking at their small farm with beautiful, lush trees, a relaxing pond, and sweet fruit trees, you’d think their home was a paradise.
