When Rachael Greenhaw bought a 2005 International Pilgrim trailer to live in, it was old-fashioned, dark, and not very pretty.
But Rachael wasn’t put off. Using her creative talents, handy skills, and some hard work, she transformed it into a lovely home for herself and her cat.
Now, they both live comfortably in this 250-square-foot space. Her updated, mobile home is a great example for anyone interested in living in a smaller space.
Rachael started with a plain trailer and turned it into a bright and welcoming tiny home.
Look at her before and after photos below. Notice the small details; those really make a big difference.
When Rachael bought The Pilgrim trailer a year ago, she was eager to start fixing it up right away.
Inside, everything was working well but it looked really old. The walls were dark and the curtains seemed older than they actually were.
The kitchen hadn’t been updated since the appliances and cabinets were first put in back in 2004.
Everything was okay, but it was not very attractive or what she wanted.
The furniture in the camper had an upholstery pattern that Rachael didn’t like much.
The dining area and overhead cabinets were useful for storage, but they made it feel more like a camper than a home.
The bedroom was full of dark cabinets on the walls, which made it feel more like a storage closet than a cozy sleeping area.
Rachael had lots of ideas and started to make changes right away.
In the bedroom, she painted the cabinets, swapped out the old handles, and added side tables that fit perfectly.
She also improved the lighting, which made the room brighter and the bed more welcoming and comfortable.
Rachael’s bathroom renovation turned out beautifully. She paid great attention to details, giving it a classy and polished appearance.
The new faucet, shower curtain, and oval mirror, along with exciting teal paint on the vanity doors, make the bathroom look like it’s in a nicely decorated home, not a camper.
Rachael loves cooking, so she put a lot of effort into redoing the kitchen. It was time well spent.
The bright blue-green cabinets make the kitchen feel lively and new. She took out the microwave and upper cabinets to make the ceiling area look more open.
The red rug is a perfect addition that ties everything together and makes it feel cozy.
Rachael kept the countertop and sink the same, but she swapped the old faucet for a new copper one that looks much better.
She was worried about using a smaller stove and oven, especially with not much countertop space.
But over time, she adapted and made it work.
She got rid of the old dinette set and replaced it with a round table and two chairs.
This gives Rachael enough room to eat and even have a guest over. She likes to change the table runner now and then to match the seasons.
Rachael made the living room nicer by removing the old built-in couch and putting in a smaller, more modern and comfy loveseat.
She added side tables that match her decorating style and a round, pink hassock where she or her cat can rest their feet.
The wood floors she installed make the camper feel more like an apartment.
The original entertainment center was just some cabinets with a space for an old-style TV.
Rachael took everything out and started over. She mounted her flat screen TV on the wall and added shelves to display small decorations that show her personality.
The new setup looks great.
One of the coolest parts of the renovation is actually hidden. Originally, the camper had a bunk room with two beds behind a door, perfect for families.
But Rachael didn’t need these extra beds, so she turned it into a walk-in closet.
Here’s what it looked like before:
After the renovation, Rachael had plenty of room to store all her clothes and shoes.
She even had extra space to use some shelves as a pantry.
These baskets are perfect for items that don’t have a specific place.
Rachael also has a two-tiered setup for her blouses, tops, skirts, and dresses.
This lets her keep a large wardrobe even though she lives in a small space.
Rachael and her cat are very happy in their 2005 International Pilgrim camper.
It’s no surprise because all the hard work she put into renovating it has really paid off.
The camper is beautiful, welcoming, and feels like a home anyone would love.
