Escape to this tiny cabin in the woods

Cabinscape’s story starts with Laura and John, a couple who loves the outdoors.

They describe themselves on their Instagram page as outdoor adventurers, canoeists, campers, cabin builders, and professional artists living in Toronto.

Using their skills as professional artists, Laura and John started a business. They wanted to help people enjoy nature.

Their business, called Cabinscape, offers a luxury camping experience in Ontario’s back-country. Let’s find out more about their journey.

Laura and John understand how great it feels to get away from it all.

They started Cabinscape so others could find the same peace and inspiration they do in nature.

They built a beautiful cabin called Auburn with cedar walls and black trim. It’s the first of many small but stylish cabins.

These cabins are off the grid but have all the modern comforts.

Auburn has enough space to sleep four people. It features an indoor/outdoor bar with a window that opens up to the outside.

Guests can choose from an indoor or outdoor shower for a true fresh-air experience.

The cabin also includes a bar and an outdoor grill, so guests can enjoy their meals outside.

After Laura and John finished building Auburn, they added another cabin called Mason to their Cabinscape series.

Mason is a cozy, small cabin perfect for two people or just for one person looking for a quiet retreat.

It has windows on every side, offering stunning views. Mason can only be reached by hiking, but snowshoes and a sled are provided for the journey.

Mason also features a large retractable window above the bar.

Next, Laura and John built Penner. This cabin can sleep three people.

No matter which bunk you choose, you’ll enjoy a beautiful lake view.

Joni, named after Joni Mitchell, is another cabin in the Cabinscape series.

The storage in Joni is smartly designed so everything you need — dishes, cutlery, glasses, and even seasonings — is easy to reach but tucked away neatly.

Joni can sleep three people. The couch, perfect for reading a book with a pot of tea during the day, converts into a queen bed at night.

On the Cabinscape website, Laura shares her thoughts on decorating the cabins.

She says, “One of my favorite things about setting up these tiny cabins is choosing our small book collection and finding the perfect vintage teapots and mugs for our guests to enjoy.”

The Dashi cabin is a new addition to Cabinscape. It can sleep four people and has plenty of kitchen storage.

It’s perfect for two couples or a family of four who want to cook and enjoy meals together in this secluded spot.

A queen bed and a wood stove with plenty of firewood make it cozy and warm to sleep in the fresh air.

Laura and John started Cabinscape to offer people a chance to escape to the wilderness.

It’s not just their business; it’s their way of life. They often bring their young daughter along, hoping she will grow to love the outdoors just as much as they do.

They believe that spending time in nature is good for the soul.

Laura and John say, “For those with young children, the best way to fight indifference to climate change is to let your kids grow up in nature. Raise them wild, aware, and grateful.”
