Grace Kohn and David Phinney spent a year and a half renovating their 31-foot long Airstream trailer.
They worked on it during weekends. By the end, they had turned the 1973 trailer into a cozy home inspired by nature.
It was Grace’s first time designing anything, and she was pleased with the results.
The couple started by stripping the Airstream down to its frame. They removed the interior walls and the floor.
Then, they updated the trailer with new wiring and insulation. They also sanded, primed, and painted the aluminum panels.
After all this preparation, Grace and David decorated the trailer to make it their home.
The couple carefully planned every part of the trailer to use the space well. They chose an open layout, so each area flows into the next.
The walls are painted white with Sherwin Williams paint, and the floor is covered with stylish, durable cork.
In the living area, there is a gray couch with rectangular cushions and big pillows. The couch fits perfectly and has drawers underneath.
These drawers hold the solar batteries that power the trailer, as well as blankets and other items.
A medium-sized window lets them see outside. Above the window, there’s a narrow shelf where they keep small potted plants and books.
The office area in this home has a wooden plank against the wall, a small window, and two round wooden stools.
Add a laptop, a coffee cup, and a French press, and it’s ready for work.
The kitchen features a stainless steel sink, an oven, and an Isotherm 200 refrigerator.
A simple white countertop offers space for preparing food. Custom-built wooden cabinets hold important kitchen items like plates and cutlery.
The bedroom has a simple bed that takes up most of the space. The bedspread is rust orange, which adds a warm color to the room.
There is a floating side table next to the bed that is big enough for a slim vase with lavender stems, a picture frame, and a candle in a jar.
A window behind the bed lets in sunlight in the mornings.
The bathroom has a simple but fully functional shower. The shower has a wall of patterned cork tiles that are eye-catching.
There is also a small stainless steel sink and a composting toilet, which complete the bathroom.
