Dave and Helen always dreamed of owning a camper after hearing stories from friends and family who had their own. Dave loves DIY projects, and Helen enjoys creative interior design. Together, they decided to build a camper from scratch to make it feel like a second home.
In July 2019, their dream came true when they bought Floyd, a 2015 Peugeot Boxer van with lots of possibilities. Floyd was the perfect size for them—it was tall enough to stand up in, wide enough to sleep comfortably, long enough to feel roomy, and short enough to fit in their driveway.
Cooking Equipment
Floyd comes with a two-burner gas stove inside. There’s also a small BBQ grill for outdoor cooking. The van has everything you need to make great meals, including:
- Mugs, plates, bowls, and cutlery for four people
- Two wine glasses and champagne flutes
- Large tumblers
- Two chopping boards
- A kettle for the stove, a toaster, a frying pan, large and small pots, and various cooking tools Floyd also has a foldable sink for washing dishes, a drying mat, and a small broom and dustpan.
Water Facilities
Floyd has a 70-liter tank for cold water and a 22-liter tank for hot water. These supply water to the kitchen sink and an outdoor shower. You fill the tanks from a single point outside the van.
The water can be heated with a diesel heater or an electric heater, which works even when you’re not connected to power. Used water goes into a tank under the van and can be easily emptied. Floyd also has a portable toilet.
Audio Equipment
Floyd is equipped with a radio, CD player, and Bluetooth in the driver’s area. In the main living space, you can use a portable Bluetooth speaker. If you like watching movies to relax after a day of exploring, you can rent Floyd with a built-in projector and a 55-inch screen that retracts.
The projector connects with HDMI and USB, so you can play movies from a memory stick or stream from services like Netflix using your phone or tablet.
Parking
If you drive to pick up Floyd, you can park your car in his usual spot on a driveway in a quiet neighborhood. If you are traveling by train, Floyd’s owners can pick you up from the Melton Mowbray station.
