Doug recently shared his story on the “Coolest Thing” YouTube channel.

After retiring from an IT career, he wanted to tackle a DIY project, inspired by his dad.

He named his creation the SV Seeker and started building it right at home.

Although it’s a sailing boat, the SV Seeker also has backup diesel engines from Cummins for extra power.

As the project grew, people from various places contributed, some with materials and others with engineering expertise.

The boat is now complete and ready to sail.

It will be towed to the Port of Catoosa near Tulsa for its launch.

When people turn DIY into an art form

Some people are really talented at DIY projects.

Building a ship is one of the hardest DIY ideas, but Doug isn’t the only one who has done it. Someone even made a pirate ship out of a dump truck!

There’s also a couple who built not one, but two yachts right in their front yard, just like Doug did.

MacGyver would definitely be impressed by these projects!
