We are Michael and Stephanie, and this is Jasmine along with our van, Serbian Dora. We both worked in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and wanted to start traveling around the world. We became interested in living in a van and started looking into it.
We thought about buying Sprinter vans at first because I wanted to stand up inside, but they were too expensive and needed a lot of work, more than we could afford. We searched for a couple of months, and it was tough.

Every time we found a van, it would be sold by the time I called. Finally, we found one on Kijiji right after it was posted. I called the seller immediately and said, “We will take this van.”

He was four hours away, so we drove there on the weekend. He kindly held the van for us and made sure it was safe to drive. I really loved the character of the van. It cost us $2,900 to buy the van, plus about $1,100 for repairs.

The build was actually quite affordable. I used some scrap wood from work and bought inexpensive materials. In total, it was maybe $2,000. So, all together, the entire setup cost us around $6,000.
