This small family home has a special story. Designed by architect Michael Leung and his wife Tiffany for their young family, the house is 646 square feet and made from hemp. The couple chose hempcrete as their building material because it’s healthy and non-toxic.
Hempcrete is made by mixing hemp with lime and water. It’s a wonderful building material because it’s completely non-toxic and works very well. Hempcrete is great at keeping heat in, reducing noise, and managing moisture inside the house.

Tiffany was motivated to use non-toxic materials after her father died from mesothelioma, a cancer linked to asbestos exposure. This led her to study building biology to learn how to create homes that are safe for both the people living in them and those building them.
