The Folly Cabin is inspired by old, often decorative buildings from 19th-century Europe that stood on large pieces of land. Alqadi redesigned it for modern times, making it a smart, efficient, and self-sustaining small building to show people what living off-grid is like.
The cabin is built on the same spot as an original cabin from 1863. Homesteaders back then could claim large pieces of land in the Mojave Desert.

Now, the cabin has a living and dining area, a sleeping loft, a small kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower. It even has an indoor boulder and a glass wall to make it feel like the outdoors is inside.

When Malek Alqadi and Hillary Flur first came to Joshua Tree and saw the old cabin falling apart in a wide-open space, they knew it was the perfect place to build their modern, off-grid cabin.
